Troopers discovered that a blue 2005 Ford F-350 pickup, driven by Ryan B. Gilmore, 31, of Sun Valley, had struck an Isuzu Rodeo being driven by 40-year-old Kimberly D. Piccinini of Sun Valley. Gilmore rear-ended Piccinini's vehicle, which was stopped for a pedestrian, 51-year-old Dwain A. Carson of Reno. After hitting the Rodeo, Gilmore's truck then hit Carson as he waited on the curb to cross Sun Valley Boulevard at Skaggs Circle.
Gilmore then fled the scene.
Carson sustained serious injuries and was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where he is still being treated. Piccinini was not hurt in the collision.
A few minutes later Gilmore was spotted and stopped by a Washoe County sheriff’s deputy, who then notified the NHP. Gilmore failed field sobriety tests and was arrested.
Gilmore had his 7-month-old daughter in the truck. Neither she nor Gilmore were injured in the collision and she was released a short time later to her mother, Gilmore's wife.
Gilmore was booked on felony DUI causing substantial bodily harm, felony hit and run injury or death accident, child endangerment, duty to give information and render aid, failure to use due care and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
