RENO — The Alliance Washoe County Medical Society (AWCMS) is now accepting grant applications for spring 2011 awards. Grants are funded by proceeds from the annual rummage sale, scheduled for March 5 at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center.

AWCMS is a nonprofit organization and its members are the spouses of physicians in the Reno-Sparks area. The Physicians’ Spouses Rummage Sale, also known as the Doctors’ Wives Rummage Sale, has been held annually since 1951 and is the organization’s major fundraising event.

The grant applications can be downloaded at, or by calling 829-1303 and leaving a message where an application may be mailed. Return completed applications to: AWCMS, 3660 Baker Lane, Reno, NV, 89509. The deadline for applications is Nov. 15. All applications postmarked after this date will not be considered for the 2010-2011 grants.

The Physicians’ Wives Rummage Sale has funded about $1,600,000 for local nursing scholarships and Reno-Sparks health and educational community programs.
