The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has arrested a man in connection with a head-on collision that killed a 19-year-old on Monday.

Justin Speed, 21, was booked into the Churchill County jail for driving under the influence in a crash that killed Samantha Sibis of Fallon around 5:30 a.m. on Highway 50 near McLean Road. Sibis was driving her 1983 Volvo station wagon when she was hit by Speed’s 2007 Chevrolet pickup that was traveling westbound. Speed allowed the truck to cross the center turn lane and traveled directly into her path.

Sibis died from her injuries and Speed sustained non life-threatening injuries. He was initially transported to Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon, and later transferred to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. As soon as he was medically discharged late Wednesday afternoon, NHP troopers arrested him.

Speed was booked on felony DUI causing death, failure to maintain a travel lane and speeding. His bail is $251,344 and he is in the Churchill County jail.
