Washoe County sheriff’s deputies responded at 3:44 p.m. to what appeared to be a head-on collision involving two vehicles traveling in the area of Highland Ranch Parkway and Pyramid Way. Both vehicles involved had extensive damage and each had a single occupant. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.
One driver was flown and the other was transported by ground to a local hospital for medical treatment and examination. Shortly after transport, the sheriff’s office was told that one of the drivers was pronounced dead at the hospital. The name is being withheld pending family notification.
The other driver was admitted due to a severe injury to her lower and upper extremities. That driver’s name has not yet been released.
The investigating team determined that the driver who was killed was traveling westbound and drifted out of her travel lane and collided with the vehicle traveling eastbound.
It has not yet been determined whether alcohol, vehicle speed and/or a medical condition contributed to the accident. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call 328-3350 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
