At 7:27 p.m., Sparks police responded to a call and discovered a 13-year-old female lying in the roadway with a serious head injury and lacerations on her head and back. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian, a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, was being driven by a 13-year-old female.
Further investigation revealed that the injured pedestrian was crossing Los Altos heading north in a marked crosswalk. As she and some friends were crossing the street, the Jeep approached in the westbound lanes of Los Altos. One of the friends stopped and yelled that there was a car approaching but the injured pedestrian and another friend attempted to run across the street.
The 13-year-old driver said she did not see the pedestrian until the vehicle hit her. The 18-year-old who allowed the juvenile to drive, as well as two other juveniles, were in the vehicle at the time. No other injuries were reported.
The injured pedestrian was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment, where she is listed in serious but stable condition. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors. Once the investigation is complete it will be forwarded to prosecutors for possible charges against the driver and the 18-year-old.
