On Wednesday at about 10:30 a.m., Bureau of Land Management rangers and Pershing County sheriff’s deputies were confronted by a man with a gun near Highway 400. Multiple shots were fired by the suspect. The deputies retreated and established a perimeter. Humboldt County sheriff’s deputies responded to help. The suspect reengaged the deputies and in the ensuing gunfire, the male suspect was killed.
The Washoe County Regional Officer Involved Shooting Team was requested to investigate. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency. The Reno and Sparks police departments are part of the team and are assisting. Additional information will be released as the investigation unfolds.
