America has yet to adjust to the stress engendered by the global satellite 24 hour news cycle and the associated panic mongering of their coverage. Rage equals ratings and the broadcasters are seeking out on camera commentators with a talent for tantrums. Alarmism is the coin of the realm in the politics of our time with self-fulfilling investigations and pre-fabricated news leaks from “at least one” observer close to the event.

All of these serve as a constant background dirge for popular fear and anger, all of which then get reported to further amplify the discomfort in election years, and particularly during the desperate last days before the vote. Losing candidates are prone to accusations that their opponent if a tool of something big, keeps secret mistresses  and children on the campaign budget, and blasphemes regularly at meetings of Masonic conspirators. And that’s just the polite stuff. Political action committees and other independent groups, unrestrained by electoral regulations launch deceptive advertisements claiming treason, pedophilia and racism along with hating our troops and the constitution.

This nastiness combines with the huge amounts of money showered on last-minute media to create a miasma of stress on the average citizen, to a point where many give up on figuring our whose lying and for what. They drop out, staying home on election day to watch football and “Law and Order” reruns, while the manipulators of history play out their game.

Well friends and neighbors, I have a cure!

Just assume that everything your hear from now to the vote is a full blown pack of lies. It may not be entirely true, but in the main you will be fairly close to the mark. The candidates lie, but not as often as their handlers and supporters, which allows the principles plausible denial for the extreme claims made in his or her behalf. Don’t try and understand the insults and accusations. Ignore them all as probably untrue and even if true, so what?

By now anyone who cares enough to vote has already made up their mind. Democrat, Republican or  Independent, the die has been cast and you know who and what you support, and barring some truly special event, like catching your congressman in bed with a goat, nothing is likely to change your opinion, however mistaken.

It is highly entertaining to watch the frantic flailing of politicians caught in the web of media maliciousness with a haughty disdain, knowing that it is too late to change course, and the tides of history are rising like gorge in the throats of the masses.

It ain’t what you say, it’s the way how you say it!
