Camping on the Gridiron
Summer camp is supposed to be fun, a time for arts and crafts, a time to enjoy the mountain air as well as the smell of the trees and refreshing sensation of the cool water. But that’s not exactly what Spanish Springs football coach Scott Hare had planned when he decided to put together his own summer camp.
Record numbers highlight youth football camp
The Spanish Springs High School football program saw 110 Sparks-area youths participate in its annual summer football camp last week. The three-day camp ran last Thursday through Saturday and young football enthusiasts turned out in droves.
NHL's Stanley Cup makes rare stop in Sparks
The Truckee Meadows isn't exactly synonymous with the National Hockey League. There certainly is not an NHL team, or a minor league team for that matter, that makes its home in Reno-Sparks. In fact, the San Jose Sharks are the lone NHL franchise within 400 miles.

Reed is still seen as one of the traditionally tough prep programs in the Truckee Meadows. However, after failing to win a playoff game any of the last three years, no one would call Reed the cream of the crop anymore.
Annual Kids Triathlon set for Saturday at Marina
Lukin Leniz’ favorite part of last year’s Scheels Kids Triathalon was the wildlife he saw as he biked around the Sparks Marina. At 8 years old, Lukin was one of over 160 participants below the age of 12 who competed in the 25-yard swim, 1.8 mile bike ride and .2 mile dash that comprise the region’s youngest cross training event.
History made at RTF Speedway
FERNLEY — Despite low car counts, mainly due to four regional tracks all running on the same night, racing was as intense as ever at the RTF Speedway on Saturday. And when the dust settled, history might have been as a husband/wife duo finished first and second in the IMCA feature race. "The track was good man, another phenomenal Fernley," Shawn Natenstedt said after winning the race. "I have to give thanks to sponsors and an awesome wife. I h...
