Reed baseball wins NIAA’s top academic award
The Reed High athletic calendar for this school year has been riddled with achievements and triumphs by the Raiders. However, one of the most impressive accomplishments for Reed did not take place on a playing field or gym court.
Prep standouts honored
Accolades were handed out to Rail City athletes for the Northern 4A’s individual spring sports and the Reed track and field team carried the baton for the group, leading the way for the procession of awards.
Prep baseball's postseason awards released
Earning an all-league honor was a tough gig this spring in the Northern 4A baseball ranks. In past years, the region was comprised of two leagues, each of which put together all-league rosters. However, in 2012 the Northern 4A was one big conference, which offered far fewer honors when the all-league awards parade was released this week.
With YMCA gone, NNSR looks to serve community
Last year the YMCA of the Sierra was forced to close its doors due to waning membership, leaving many who relied on the YMCA as a safe haven in search for a replacement. Fortunately, for those looking for a new place of refuge, there is now the Northern Nevada Sports and Recreation.
Frock, Natenstedt top Quincy
The fairgrounds here echoed with the sounds of racing as cars and outlaw karts competed on Saturday at the American Valley Speedway. For one driver, a monkey was taken off his back as he won for the first time in six years while another managed to sweep both of his features.
RedHawks top Aces in finale, 10-9
A.J. Pollock signaled his return to the Aces lineup with three hits and four RBIs Sunday afternoon, but the Oklahoma City RedHawks erased an early deficit and edged out a 10-9 victory over Reno in front of 8,778 fans at Aces Ballpark.
Year of the Raiders
Normally high schools are happy to have one or two highly successful athletic programs in a school year. For Reed High School, that level of triumph could have gone for just one sports season.
Reed’s Williams wins high jump, 100m hurdles
A day after junior sprinter Adriana Newell got the Reed girls off to a great start at the NIAA 4A State Track and Field Championships, it was sophomore Gabby Williams’ turn to do the same Saturday morning at Damonte Ranch High School.
Reed wins opener at state
The Reed High softball team had gotten plenty of offense all season en route to rolling to a Northern 4A regular season league championship. Unfortunately for the Raiders, that offense eluded it at times in last weekend’s regional tournament.
