After a first half that did little to hint toward the eventual victor, the Reed boys basketball team found itself in a three-point shooting contest in the second half of its prep hoop tilt against Carson Tuesday night. Luckily for the Blue and Gold, junior forward Alonzo Vega was on its side.

Reed rallies in fourth quarter to overtake Spanish Springs
The Reed Raiders finally found some offense in the fourth quarter. The RHS crew was limited to 32 points through three quarters, but exploded for 28 in the fourth. The late onslaught helped Reed pull out a 60-55 High Desert League home win over cross-town rival Spanish Springs in boys prep basketball action Friday night.
Sparks sweeps Whittell as girls get first win
For the Sparks girls basketball team, success on the court has been hard to find as the Railroaders had yet to notch a mark in the win column thus far this season. Even without a ‘W,’ Sparks coach Frank Avilla remained optimistic about the prospects for his young team. On Friday night, the Maroon and Gold backed up that optimism.
Reed's Gabby Williams blazing her own trail
Last summer, Reed High junior Gabby Williams was invited to the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore. Despite being the youngest athlete in any event, Williams out-leapt her years with a jump of 6-feet, 2.25-inches, which vaulted her into a fifth-place finish and took over headlines at the trials. Now Williams is taking over the recruiting trails of many women’s college basketball coaches from all over the country.
