Reed boys, girls win city track championships
The boys and girls track teams from Reed High can give their counterparts from Spanish Springs and Sparks a hard time in the trash talking department for the next year. That's because the Raiders won the team titles at Tuesday's inaugural Rail City Track & Field Championships presented by Scheels and the Sparks Tribune.

One month ago, the Rail City Track and Field Championships were postponed due to an untimely snowfall. Anticipation for the inaugural event has been growing during that time, but waiting a month might not have been a bad thing.

It might be getting a bit old for the Reed High softball program, watching cross-town rival Spanish Springs win the Raiders' annual spring break tournament. Spanish Springs rolled over Buhach Colony of Atwater, Calif., 12-1, in the tournament's title game Saturday. It gave Spanish Springs a third-straight tourney championship.

The old adage says baseball and softball are games of inches. That was certainly true for the Reed High softball team Saturday. A pair of base hits wound up just beyond the reach of Reed outfielders and resulted in runs that proved costly for the RHS crew.

Speaking in terms of high school baseball, Friday’s dustup between Reed and McQueen was as good a game anyone could ever hope to see. It was arguably one of the best games of the spring so far.

The Reed Raiders were probably happy to see a few unfamiliar faces across the baseball diamond Thursday afternoon. Reed had been mired in a six-game losing skid, all against northern Nevada foes. However, its woes came to an end Thursday, thanks to a 13-6 win over Mountain View High of Orem, Utah.
Cougars win tournament opener
The Spanish Springs Cougars continue to excel in late-game situations. The SSHS club picked up their eighth win, in 18 games, in their final at bat Thursday, stealing a 4-3 victory from Novato, Calif. in the opening game of pool play at the Athletics Unlimited spring break prep baseball tournament.
