In January 2005, coach Chris Ault told his assistants he was going to install a concoction he dubbed the ‘‘pistol.’’ He wanted to dramatically alter Nevada’s pass-happy, shotgun offense that had just produced a losing season.

The Wolf Pack held off a furious second-half comeback attempt by the Houston Cougars to capture a 112-99 victory in front of 5,721 at Lawlor Events Center, in an NCAA men's non-conference basketball battle.

Reed football wins North
RENO — The Galena Grizzlies improbable run through the postseason came to an end Friday night in the Northern 4A football championship game at Damonte Ranch High School. The Reed Raiders made sure of that by reeling off 26 straight points.

A victory over the Reno Patriots earlier this month is sending the Sparks Pop Warner 11-12 year-old Pee Wee Wolf Pack team to the regional semifinals in Santa Clara, Calif Saturday. Not only are the Wolf Pack players excelling on the gridiron, but in the community and in school as well.

STEAD — After practice on Saturday, the motocross track here echoed with the roar of motorcycles Sunday. Unlike other weekends, it was not a race, but for the second year in a row, an event sponsored by the Oakley company that producers all types of riding accessories and is well known for their goggles and eye wear.
Wolf Pack men debut season with win
It was a double feature for Nevada Wolf Pack fans on Saturday. After watching the Nevada football team take a 52-14 win over Fresno State, fans got to watch the season opener of Nevada men's basketball roll to a 75-61 victory over Montana State.
Reed survives semifinal scare
By curse standards, the one haunting the Reed High football team wasn't very historic, but to Raider fans it certainly seemed daunting. The RHS gridders had advanced to the Northern 4A semifinals in each of the past six years, but had seen their season end there in each of the last five.

The Reed and McQueen high football teams have established themselves as two of the top prep gridiron program sin northern Nevada so it’s no surprise that they’re meeting in the postseason. Reed hosts McQueen in a Northern 4A regional semifinal tonight at 7 p.m.
