Early in Reed’s Division I North contest at hug Tuesday, the Raiders opened the floodgates. Once the surge of runs continued to mount, there was nothing the Hawks could do to patch up the holes as Reed coasted its way to a 20-0 throttling.
No place like home for former Reed, SSHS softballers
Three years ago Karley Hopkins and Karlyn Jones were key cogs on the road to Spanish Springs securing it’s third state softball title in four years. As the Cougars celebrated their 12-1 championship victory at Nevada’s Hixson Park, the pair of seniors closed one chapter of their softball careers. Spring like weather set the stage for another night of hard racing at Rattlesnake Raceway on Saturday. Four cars classes and four classes of the Amsoil Northern Nevada Outlaw Karts made for an action packed night.
SSHS softball takes two from McQueen
The Spanish Springs softball team had no problem bouncing back from an emotional loss. Two days after getting bounced 8-2 by Damonte Ranch in a battle of perennial northern Nevada powers, the Cougars bounced back to sweep a High Desert League doubleheader from McQueen, posting wins of 12-2 and 6-2.
Cougars grab pair from Douglas
The Spanish Springs baseball team hosted Douglas Saturday for a Division I North doubleheader in search of its second consecutive league sweep. After taking Game 1 in convincing fashion 8-3, the Cougars completed the sweep with a strong defensive effort in the second tilt en route to a 2-1 victory.

This weekend saw a pair of tracks begin their racing year. To the east the newly renamed Reno/Tahoe/Fernley Speedway was in action Saturday evening while, on Sunday, Desert Park Raceway saw the Northern Nevada Kart Club begin its points season.
