North crown highlights Reed's softball season
When practices began for the 2013 spring softball season late last February, third-year Reed coach Jon Wunder did not quite know what kind of club he had on his hands. A couple weeks into the new season, he still probably wasn't sure but by late April he was confident he had one of the top teams in northern Nevada.
Local softball programs clean up in all-league hardware
Given the Rail City's abundance of prep softball talent -- it does boast the two most successful programs in the state over the past decade -- it should be no surprise when the annual all-league awards are released and filled with the names of Sparks-area athletes.
Sparks Centennial builds toward initiative
Last June the Sparks Centennial Little League board put in place its ‘2,017 by 2017’ initiative in hopes of increasing the number of boys and girls playing baseball and softball in the Rail City to over 2,000 by the year 2017. Winged warriors invade Fernley
The King of the West Outlaw series visited the Reno/Tahoe/Fernley Speedway this weekend for two days of winged 410-sprint car action. Despite the cool nights the action was hot on the track.
Railroaders count 2013 season as a success
When the 2012 season wrapped up for the Sparks High baseball team, head coach Greg Vasko knew there were going to be a lot of holes to fill once the 2013 spring came around. After replacing nine seniors from a year ago and still reaching the postseason, Vasko said he can look back at the Railroaders’ 2013 campaign as an accomplishment for the Maroon and Gold.
Reed softball sees season end
An offensive drought brought the Reed High softball team's season to an untimely end in the D-1 State Softball Tournament at UNLV Friday night. Reed managed just six hits against Palo Verde's No. 3 pitcher and the result was a 4-1 loss in a losers' bracket battle against the Sunset Region's No. 2 seed.
