Reed made another trek into the Golden State for the second straight week, but once again last year’s Nevada state runner-up was saddled with a humbling defeat. Foothill, of suburban Redding, powered its way to a 27-6 halftime lead and cruised to a 50-33 win Friday night.

The Spanish Springs girls golf team passed their first league test with flying colors. The Cougars won the first High Desert League girls golf tournament of the fall season, posting a team total of 339 to edge out McQueen Tuesday at WildCreek Golf Course.

Konrad Schmidt and Tyler Kuhn homered for the Aces Sunday afternoon, but a four-run Fresno fifth inning pushed the Grizzlies to a 6-3 victory over Reno in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
From 2006 to 2008 the Reed girls soccer team won three straight Nevada 4A North State Championships, establishing itself as one of the premiere programs in the state’s prep soccer history. Recently however, the Lady Raiders have struggled to return to the peak of the mountain they once ascended. Surprisingly, Reed coach Jason Saville said the team is not focused on achieving that task.
Spanish Springs blows away Manogue
Nobody told the Manogue Miners to hit the showers early. Still, when the sprinklers on the Spanish Springs football field popped up prematurely and started spraying around before the fourth quarter even wound to end, the Miners probably got the message.
Yerington dumps Sparks, 58-21
The Sparks High School football team entered its opening game looking for a good start to the 2012 season. Instead, the Railroaders were quickly left searching for answers as the visitors from Yerington dispatched Sparks 58-21 Friday night.
