Grizzlies down Aces in finale, 6-3
Konrad Schmidt and Tyler Kuhn homered for the Aces Sunday afternoon, but a four-run Fresno fifth inning pushed the Grizzlies to a 6-3 victory over Reno in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
From 2006 to 2008 the Reed girls soccer team won three straight Nevada 4A North State Championships, establishing itself as one of the premiere programs in the state’s prep soccer history. Recently however, the Lady Raiders have struggled to return to the peak of the mountain they once ascended. Surprisingly, Reed coach Jason Saville said the team is not focused on achieving that task.
Spanish Springs blows away Manogue
Nobody told the Manogue Miners to hit the showers early. Still, when the sprinklers on the Spanish Springs football field popped up prematurely and started spraying around before the fourth quarter even wound to end, the Miners probably got the message.
Yerington dumps Sparks, 58-21
The Sparks High School football team entered its opening game looking for a good start to the 2012 season. Instead, the Railroaders were quickly left searching for answers as the visitors from Yerington dispatched Sparks 58-21 Friday night.

Raiders continue to build on success
The Reed High football program plodded along through the 1980s and ‘90s with a few playoff teams and a rare elite team. Still, for every elite team in that stretch, there was a cellar dweller as well. Reed watched Wooster and McQueen dominate the North year after year during that stretch.
Spanish Springs ready for fresh start after disastrous ‘11
When Scott Hare took the reins of the Spanish Springs High School football program, the initial inclination was promising for the program. Following Hare’s opening season in 2006 in which the team went winless, the Cougars improved their record each subsequent season. Soccer squads gear up for new season
Last year the Sparks High School boys soccer team prevailed over the 3A en route to a state title. Now, as the Railroaders get set to take the pitch and defend their crown, head coach Frank Avilla says this year’s squad may be better.

Spikers set for season
