Sparks Fastpitch Softball league has Great Expectations
Although the Sparks Fastpitch Softball Association’s season came to a close this past weekend, the leagues All-Star squads are now gearing up for a gauntlet of tournaments sprinkled throughout the summer. While the respective teams will be aiming for much success this postseason, it will be hard to match the accomplishments that have spanned the season for the association as a whole.
Just For Kicks
As summer approaches, many parents and kids are looking for an outlet for the youngsters to expend their energy in a safe and productive environment. Luckily for those in the Rail City, the Sparks Parks and Recreation department offers the perfect opportunity with its ‘Just For Kicks’ soccer camp, which started on Tuesday.
Aces knock off Las Vegas, 8-1
Ryan Wheeler drove in his league-leading 56th run, and Patrick Corbin allowed just one run over seven innings Tuesday night, as the Reno Aces upended the Las Vegas 51s, 8-1, in the series finale at Cashman Field.
Decker enjoys the spotlight at Cal
Many kids that grow up playing sports, dream of the glory of helping guide their team to a championship. For former Spanish Springs’ softball standout Ashley Decker that dream played out a handful of times with the Cougars. Now Decker is taking that goal to the grandest of stages with her latest team.
Reed rolls to first Mayor’s Cup
The Reed High athletics programs will be hanging several new banners for their efforts this school year. The Raiders defended their Rail City Track & Field Championships crowns and retained possession of the Mayor’s Trophy, given to the winner of the Reed-Spanish Springs football game.
Aces blast Rainiers, 13-5
Reno’s Cole Gillespie was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored as the first-place Aces continued to beat up the cellar dweller of the Pacific North Wednesday afternoon.
New archery business going green
The summer months can leave many in search of activities to pass the time and take advantage of traditionally good weather. Luckily for those in the Reno-Sparks area, there is a new company providing an exciting sport to locals.
