The Spanish Springs Cougars took advantage of some gifts from the Douglas defense to break a three-game losing skid in the early season. Spanish Springs used a trio of Douglas errors to score four unearned runs and post a 5-0 Northern 4A league road win in prep baseball action Thursday evening.
Cougars knock off Mustangs
The Spanish Springs Cougars took one of their few softball tests of the early season and passed it with flying colors. In a battle of last year's state finalists, Spanish Springs cruised to a 7-2 home win over Damonte Ranch Wednesday afternoon.

Local athletes impress at Rotary meet
The Rail City is host to one of the most competitive track and field meets in the West and some local athletes shined brightly in the big event. The annual Reed Rotary Track & Field Meet was hosted at the Dave Nolte-Northern Nevada Regional facility at Reed High Saturday and Sparks schools turned in impressive performances.
Reed softball too much for North Valleys
The Reed High softball team completed its second doubleheader sweep in two days, by dumping North Valleys twice Saturday. The host Raiders romped to victories of 6-0 and 9-2, a day after taking two wins from Hug in a twin bill rescheduled after inclement weather a week earlier.
Late long balls propel Manogue over Reed
Reed erased a 5-0 deficit only to watch Sean DeWeese and Devonte German launch back-to-back homers with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Bishop Manogue a 7-5 victory in prep baseball action Saturday.
