RENO -- The Spanish Springs girls basketball team played liked a squad that was hungry for a win. The Cougars had not picked up a victory in nine days. Granted, they had only played one game in that stretch but it was an emotional 52-48 road loss to rival Bishop Manogue.

After 32 minutes of play, regulation wasn’t enough between the Reed boys basketball team and Douglas. Neither was a single overtime period in the Division I North crossover league match. Needing a second overtime, Douglas outlasted the Raiders and grabbed 75-67 double-overtime victory at home Saturday afternoon.
Defying the Odds and Gravity
One after another, a group of kids sprint down the pole vault runway at the ‘Jump N Shout’ facility, plant their pole into the ground and launch themselves skyward over the bar. As each person takes his or her turn, 13-year-old Makayla Linebarger stands shyly at the back of the line. Once it is her turn, her timid exterior vanishes.
