Cougars, Raiders gear up for regional girls golf
Reno’s Rosewood Lakes Golf Course hosts the Div. I Northern Region Girls Golf Championships Tuesday and Wednesday. The two Sparks squads, Spanish Springs and Reed, could not have different outlooks heading into the week. As the defending state champion and the runaway High Desert League title holder, Spanish Springs is not looking to make friends.
Reed soccer squads fall at Galena
Two first-half goals by the Galena Grizzlies proved costly for Reed Monday afternoon. The early offense proved to be all Galena would need in holding off Reed for a 2-1 triumph in girls prep soccer action.
DTC ends Rattlesnake's season
FALLON - The annual Dirt Track Championships this weekend brought the regular season to a close at Rattlesnake Raceway. For the past three decades this show has featured hard, action-packed racing and this weekend was no exception.
Raiders soar over Hawks
It was not the sexy win Reed has become accustomed to this season. But coach Ernie Howren and his Raiders (6-0, 2-0 in the High Desert League) aren’t going to apologize for their 41-6 win at Hug Friday.
Sparks boys soccer downs Spring Creek
The Sparks boys soccer team completed a season sweep of Spring Creek. The Railroaders, who knocked off the Spartans two weeks ago in Elko County, turned the trick again Friday, picking up a 4-1 home win in a Div. 1-A League tilt.
Reno takes down Spanish Springs
Missed opportunities proved costly for the Spanish Springs football team Friday night. The Cougars marched into the red zone six times but came away with only three scores and were saddled with a 31-21 High Desert League loss at Reno.
In the thick of it
High School football programs around the state are getting deeper into their seasons and further into their league campaigns. That often means the games get more and more meaningful.
Parked among the HDL's elite
He is not the most vocal player on the Spanish Springs football team, not by a long shot. He doesn’t need to be. His play under the Friday night lights speaks for itself.
Sparks boys soccer survives against So. Tahoe
The Sparks offense looked great early and late, in between, maybe not as good. The Railroaders posted goals in the first minute and the last minute to pull out a 2-1 home win over South Tahoe in a matchup of traditional Div. I-A North League boys prep soccer powers Saturday afternoon.
