Spanish Springs managed to knock off Reno, 26-24, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24 in the High Desert League opener for both prep volleyball teams. The match was originally scheduled for the week of the WCSD's new fall break in mid-October so the two schools agreed to move the match and keep the break open.

Reed wins season debut in California
There's overcoming adversity and then there's what the Reed football team did Friday night in its season opener. Despite getting in just four full-contact padded practices and despite being forced indoors for workouts for more than a week during preseason camp, Reed went on the road to suburban Redding, Calif. Friday night, built a big lead and held on to knock off Norcal power Foothill, 38-28.
