Mustangs blast Cougars into loser's bracket final
Just like it did against Reed hours earlier, the Damonte Ranch softball squad went yard twice in the same inning against the other Rail City school and earned a berth to next week’s state tournament and a spot in today’s 4A Northern Region championship game with a 5-1 win over Spanish Springs Friday.
Reed survives Day 2, will face SSHS for berth to state
The Reed softball team entered the Northern 4A Region Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed having lost just one game in league play. After dispatching eighth seeded McQueen on Thursday, the Raiders found themselves taking the more straining road to a state championship berth and a regional title after falling into the loser’s bracket.
Sertic, Landeros lead Reed over McQueen
The Reed Raiders experienced some postseason butterflies in their playoff opener Thursday. But, they still found a way to overcome the jitters and capture a 3-0 win over McQueen in a first-round game of the Northern 4A Region Softball Tournament.
Spanish Springs wins regional tourney opener
The Spanish Springs softball team ran off the field after retiring the side in the top of the sixth inning and into its dugout with the score still knotted at 0-0 against Galena. With the meat of the Cougars’ lineup due to the plate in the bottom half of the frame, assistant coach Larry Cooper could be overheard rallying his squad.
Local tracksters geared up for regionals
The Rail City’s prep track and field programs will send their best forward Saturday to compete in the Northern 4A and 3A Regional Track and Field Championships. Sparks will travel to Fallon for the 3A meet while Reed and Spanish Springs will look to showcase their speed and strength at the 4A event, hosted by Damonte Ranch.
Reed's season ends at Manogue
RENO — The Reed High baseball team’s season came to an uneventful conclusion Wednesday. Reed, which dropped into the losers’ bracket of the Northern 4A Regional Tournament following an extra innings loss to perennial power Reno Tuesday, was eliminated from postseason play a day later after falling 10-4 at Bishop Manogue.
Cougars earn state golf berth
Heading into Tuesday’s second round of the Northern 4A Region Boys Golf Championships at Dayton Valley Country Club, the Spanish Springs Cougars held a 14 and 15 shot lead over Reno and Carson respectively for second place. With the top two teams advancing to next week’s state tourney, the Cougars made sure they did not lose their ticket to Las Vegas and the 4A state championships.
Reed drops playoff opener in extra innings
With second-seeded Reno trailing 4-2 and down to its final three outs against Reed — in the first round of the 4A Northern Region Baseball Tournament Tuesday — a parent was overheard talking to a former Reno High student. They agreed the Huskies had the game in hand.
Aces win longest game in club history
MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Ryan Wheeler delivered a two-out, go-ahead single in the 13th inning, lifting Reno to a 9-8 victory over the Memphis Redbirds in the longest game in Aces history Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

For a program that reached the playoffs for 25 straight years, it’s been a long time since the Blue and Gold of Reed High has been seen at the Northern 4A Regional Tournament.
Sp. Springs, Reed prep for Northern 4A Golf Championships
The top local boys golf teams will swing into action Monday and Tuesday when the Northern 4A Championships are hosted at Dayton Valley Country Club. A pair of Sparks schools help comprise that group and both are looking to make others take notice in what could be their final competitive tournaments of the season.
