Local wrestlers ready to rumble
Losing only three members from a squad that took home the Northern 4A crown last year, the Spanish Springs wrestling team knows there is a target on its back, as teams gun for its thrown. The Cougars aren’t worrying about that though, instead staying focused on winning more than just their fourth straight regional title.

Cougar girls too much for Elko
For one half the Spanish Springs girls basketball team struggled mightily, letting Elko hang in the game. However, a huge third quarter cured all of the Cougars’ ills and they cruised to a 52-42 win Thursday evening in first day action of the fifth annual High Sierra Winter Challenge. The victory improved Spanish Springs to 5-0 on the season, the best start in program history.

Spanish Springs boys hold off Elko
Another big scoring night from senior swingman Brandon Delong propelled Spanish Springs to its fourth win in five tries. Delong poured in a game-high 28 points as Spanish Springs overcame a slow start to capture a 60-51 win Thursday over host Elko at the annual EHS Red Lion Tournament.

Reed highlights awards parade
The Reed High football team dominated regional foes all season. The Raiders did not lose to a Northern 4A opponent all season and even cruised to a 49-0 win over Carson in the North title game. Given its manhandling of regional competition, it’s no surprise Reed got plenty of recognition when the conference’s all-league awards were released this week.
