Utah State is still class of the WAC
As I watched Utah State and New Mexico State fall in their NCAA Tournament first-round games Friday up here in the great inland northwest, it occurred to me, Nevada is the lone WAC school to win a game in the Big Dance since the impressive run of good Tulsa teams that ended in 2003.
Sparks baseball, softball fall to Dayton
Seven errors proved costly for the Sparks High baseball team Wednesday. The generosity of the SHS defense, combined with 10 Dayton hits, helped the visiting Dust Devils roll to an 8-2 triumph over Sparks in the 3A North League opener for both schools.
Cougars run by Panthers
The Spanish Springs and North Valleys track teams continued their rivalry Tuesday afternoon. The two schools, which both opened their doors in the fall of 2001, competed in their annual Duel in the Desert meet Tuesday and Spanish Springs earned bragging rights, winning the boys competition 77-69 and the girls competition 95-61.
Racers ready for upcoming season
This week's Lockett and Sullivan hosted the International Motorsport and Recreation Expo at the Convention Center. The show offered racing groups a chance to display their wares for the public and provide information to interested spectators.

RENO — The Nevada men’s basketball team looked like a team on a mission Thursday while Idaho looked more like a club ready to be done for the year. Nevada scored early and often en route to an 87-71 romp over Idaho in a Western Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal.
