Cougars win North
For the first time in the 10-year history of Spanish Springs High School, the Cougars girls golf team can call itself Northern 4A champions. Better yet, the Cougars made it look easy, blowing away second-place Carson by 30 strokes.
SSHS, Sparks girls soccer snare ties; Reed shut out
RENO — The Spanish Springs Cougars are trying to stay alive in the High Desert League championship chase, but those hopes took a hit Tuesday at McQueen. Less than a month after shutting out McQueen for a home win, Spanish Springs fell behind in the first half and had to settle for a 2-2 tie on the road against the Lancers.
Championship day for NNKC
After being rained out last week the Northern Nevada Kart Club held its season ending race Sunday so two final titles could be decided. As luck would have it Lady Luck dealt her cards for both championships.

Three weeks ago, the Reed Raiders looked like world beaters in a three-game sweep of cross-town rival Spanish Springs. On Thursday, the Sparks schools switched roles as Spanish Springs swept by Reed 26-24, 25-11, 25-23 in prep volleyball action.

Northern Nevada high school golfers could not have asked for better weather for their fall season. Mother Nature has smiled on the region’s girls golf teams with warm, sunny conditions through each of the first five weeks of the season.
