Exit 28 hosts practice after race canceled
The final round of RMA's fall series was supposed to be staged Sunday at the Stead Motocross course. However, that race was canceled so those riders wanting some seat time headed for a practice session at Exit 28's motocross track.
Nevada edges New Mexico, snaps 3-game losing streak
All season long, the Nevada defense has been the weak link for the Wolf Pack. However, in the midst of a three game losing streak, it was the Silver and Blue defenders that led the way to Nevada's first victory in over a month at New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.
Raider defense rounds up Mustangs
All season long Damonte Ranch running back Drew Smith has terrorized Division I North squads, gashing opposing defenses for big plays and helping lead the Mustangs to the regional championship game against Reed. Smith has meant so much to Damonte this season that the local prep world often referred to the DRHS group as the ‘Drewstangs.’ Unfortunately for Smith and the ‘Drewstangs,’ they ran into the Raiders on Friday night.
Bryant drives Raider defense
When the Reed Raider defense breaks its huddle, senior linebacker Drew Bryant steps behind his defensive line and scans the opposing offense, drafting a blueprint in his mind of the play that is about to take place. As the Reed defensive general bears down on the line of scrimmage and peers into the backfield, the opposing quarterback has no choice but to meet the eyes behind the battle-ridden helmet of Raiders’ standout.
Awards Parade : HDL soccer honors announced
High Desert League girls soccer coaches released their postseason awards list this week and Rail City student athletes were well represented. Seven players from league champion Spanish Springs earned all-league honors while eight from third-place Reed garnered eight all-league selections.
Former student-athletes trade in helmets for whistles
Many athletic careers end when players don their high school graduation cap and gown, leaving an emptiness where the sport they loved to play used to be. For four recent graduates from Reed and Spanish Springs high schools, the filler for that empty space left on the football field was found in the exact same sport that they had recently cherished so much.
All-league volleyball honors released
With the release of all-league honors this week, it was easy to see that Spanish Springs and Reed volleyball were the class of the High Desert League. The awards lists were full of Cougars and Raiders.
Reed, Damonte set to clash for North title
The Reed High football team is busy this week prepping for the Division I North regional championship game. It is Reed’s third invitation to the North final over the past four years. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. at the University of Nevada’s Mackay Stadium.
Cougars foursome makes college plans official
On National Signing Day, high school seniors across the United States put pen to paper and signed National Letters of Intent to the college at which they will continue their education and athletic careers. At Spanish Springs, those honors went to a group of four girls
Football coaches reflect on rematch
Last Friday’s regional football semifinal between Reed and Spanish Springs was quite the emotional roller coaster. Prior to kickoff, both teams were amped up for a rematch of cross-town rivals on a huge playoff stage. Spanish Springs raced out to a big lead only to see Reed rally from an 18-point deficit and steal the postseason victory, ending the season for the SSHS gridders.

Nearly a month after coming from behind for a victory over bitter rival UNLV and earning its bowl eligibility for an eighth straight season, the Nevada football team is still searching for its next win.
