Arenacross returns to LEC
RENO - The Amsoil Arenacross series returned to the Livestock Events center after a year's absence this weekend. As usual Friday and Saturday evenings saw the pros race while Sunday, after the course was altered for safety, was for the amateurs.
Reno girls dispatch Manogue, capture North crown
Reno girls basketball coach Shane Foster got a great birthday gift. His Huskies sang him a sentimental postgame birthday tune and also gave him a second-straight regional crown, thanks to a 56-47 triumph over Bishop Manogue Saturday afternoon in the DI North title game at Spanish Springs High School.
Cougs shoot past Galena, into state
The Spanish Springs boys basketball team was not shooting at a basketball hoop Friday night, in their home gym, in the DI North semifinals against Galena. It shot a hula hoop – connecting on a disgusting 13-of-16 shots from deep.
Manogue girls down Damonte, advance to North final
It took 10 years but the Bishop Manogue girls basketball team earned a state tournament berth. The Miners state tourney invitation comes on the heels of the Miners picking up a 40-30 win over Damonte Ranch in a DI North Region semifinal played Thursday night at Spanish Springs High School.
Spanish Springs bounces Carson, advances to regional semifinal
The Spanish Springs boys basketball team had never won a playoff game on its home court. In two previous tries the Cougars were 0-2. That all changed Wednesday night as Spanish Springs surged in the fourth period to pull away from visiting Carson and capture a 50-40 victory in a DI North Region quarterfinal playoff.
Local youth baseball club wins tournament
The Reno-Sparks 9u Muckdogs team won its first tournament championship of the season last weekend. The team, which has been playing together since Labor Day weekend last year, had six players on its roster who hail from the Sparks-Spanish Spring area.
Desert Fox rips at Sahwave
NIGHTINGALE - Area racing started this weekend as the Trail Blazers Motorcycle Club staged the 16th annual Sahwave Hare and Hound event to start the MRANN's (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) season. The event drew 126 riders for Sunday and a veteran scored the first overall victory of the season.
