PURGATORY PEAK - The 15th annual Stan Searle Memorial race, also named The Flying Chukar 100, was postponed from mid-October to this weekend due to the government shutdown. So this weekend the Tankslappers Motorcycle Club staged the two-day event east of Winnemucca Dry Lake's north end.

Raiders, Senators go to battle in regional football final
The Reed and Carson football teams are becoming familiar foes. For the second time in three years, the two schools will meet in northern Nevada's large school football championship game. Friday night's DI final, pitting the Raiders and Senators will be the fourth meeting in the last three seasons between the growing rivals.

High Desert League volleyball coaches released their annual postseason awards lists this week and Sparks-area athletes did not go unnoticed. Six Spanish Springs and four Reed standouts were honored on the all-league lists.

Reed outlasts Galena in regional semifinal, 53-44
There are fun and exciting high school football games ... and then there is what Reed and Galena hooked up in Friday night. The lead changed hands seven times and five of those occasions came in the second half. Countless big plays made for plenty of fun and the lead changes made it more than exciting.
