Rail City schools sent a number of wrestlers to Las Vegas this weekend to take part in the State Championships and a pair of Raiders will be returning as champions of their respective weight classes.

The Reno girls basketball team took care of business with a decisive 60-43 victory over Sierra League No. 1 seeded Bishop Manogue Thursday night, earning a spot in the Northern 4A championship game.

Defending North champ Manogue falls at Hug
Over the season, the Hug boys basketball team earned the right to hold the No. 1 seed going into the Northern 4A playoffs. The Hawks used a dominating performance on Wednesday night to back that up, easily dumping Bishop Manogue 73-51.
Cougars collapse in Carson
The Spanish Springs girls basketball team opened the first round of the Northern 4A regionals on the road and looked as though it would be returning to its home gym for the second round of the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Cougars, a squandered 15-point lead and a second-half collapse spoiled those hopes as host Carson used a second-half rally to come away with the 41-36 victory Tuesday night.

If one is to take a look around the coaching landscape of the Reed and Spanish Springs basketball programs, a lot of familiar faces will pop up. At all different levels, former Raiders and Cougars have returned to their alma maters to help coach.
MX racers rip through Fernley sandbox
The area’s racing year was started by the Reno chapter of the Over the Hill Gang as they hosted the first round of SMRA’s spring series. Almost spring weather set the stage for a day of hard racing for over 270 riders on the track they call “The Sand Box.”
