SSHS softball takes two at Douglas
The Spanish Springs softball used the long ball to snap a three-game losing skid. The Cougars crushed three home runs in the opener of a doubleheader at Douglas and cruised to a sweep of the twin bill, rolling to wins of 9-1 and 10-5.
Cougars steal victory from Raiders
It’s hard to get 14 hits, out-hit your opponent by eight and only score four runs. In fact, it’s probably harder to get held to four runs when you collect 14 hits, than it would be to score more off that same hit total.
Truckee wraps up sweep at Sparks
The Sparks baseball team had plenty of opportunities to make a game of it against Truckee in the two schools’ prep baseball series finale. However, a few mental lapses in the field, and 13 runners left on base, came back to haunt the Railroaders as the visiting Wolverines completed a three-game Mount Rose League series sweep with a decisive 11-3 victory Saturday morning.
Raiders down rival Cougars
There was not much missing at Aces Ballpark on Friday afternoon when the Reed and Spanish Springs baseball teams squared off. With both schools’ fans showing up in strong numbers, players filling the bullpens, and even player introductions complete with intro songs, the game had it all as the cross-town rivals put on a show for their supporters. The end result was 9-6 victory Reed victory over its rival Spanish Springs.
Sparks shut out at Truckee
Trying to keep alive hopes of defending its Mount Rose League title from a year ago, the Sparks baseball team fell short. It dropped an 8-0 decision at home to Truckee on Friday afternoon.

Raiders bounce back
The Reed softball team had been undefeated in league play until Tuesday. For a brief moment two days later, it looked like the Raiders might come out on the short end again. However, Reed scored eight unanswered runs with a pair of four-run rallies and cruised to an 11-4 home win over Douglas Thursday.

The Reed baseball team began the season racking up wins before a sluggish start to Northern 4A league play slowed its pace. Now heading down the home stretch and jostling for possible playoff positioning, the Raiders are heating up at the right time. A 10-7 victory over visiting North Valleys on Tuesday afternoon marked Reed’s fifth win out of its last six league games, placing it at the .500 plateau.
