One of the most successful programs that the Sparks Parks and Recreation Department hosts is underway once again. The Just For Kicks youth soccer program is getting some of the Rail City’s youngest youths running around on the soccer pitch. For most, it’s their introduction to the game with the black and white ball.

Wily Mo Peña belted his league-leading 19th and 20th home runs of the season Monday night, propelling the Reno Aces to a 15-9 victory over the Tucson Padres at Aces Ballpark.

Sertoma Classic nears
The 30th annual Sertoma Classic All-Star football game is less than two weeks away. The game, which is hosted by the Sparks Sertoma Club, will be played Friday, June 24 at the University of Nevada’s Mackay Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
McGee fights way onto national scene
Alec McGee hasn’t been boxing for very long, but the 16-year-old junior from Reed High is well on his way to accomplishing his ultimate goal — boxing for the U.S. national team in the Olympics, with a fallback plan of turning professional.

RENO — Matt Torra allowed just two runs in seven innings of work, and Collin Cowgill hit a two-run homer, leading Reno to a 3-2 victory over the Salt Lake Bees Saturday night at Aces Ballpark.
