Shepard plans to play football at Sierra College
Recent Reed High graduate Ty Shepard announced this week his college athletic career plans. Shepard, a standout running back on Reed's back-to-back D-I North championship football teams the past two seasons, will go to Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif.
Spanish Springs Cal Ripken all-star teams pick up easy wins
The Sun Valley 12u all-stars were no match for Spanish Springs Thursday on the first night of action at the Nevada State Cal Ripken Tournament in Fallon. Spanish Springs scored seven runs in the first inning and then posted six more in the third, implementing the 10-run mercy rule en route to a 13-0 four-inning romp.
SSHS set to host rare youth football camp
Scott Hare is gearing up for his eighth season at the helm of the Spanish Springs High School football program and he is working to continue to try and grow the Cougars’ brand. His latest venture toward that end is hosting a Cougars youth football camp.

Nevada Comets softball team headed to national tourney
The Nevada Comets will compete in the 2013 Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) National Tournament in Huntington Beach, Calif. July 28 through Aug. 3. The Comets, which is the lone northern Nevada team to earn an invitation to the prestigious tournament, has six players from Sparks schools on the 13-man roster.

Sparks Centennial Juniors look for all-star success
Sparks Centennial Little League took on a new venture this past spring as part of its 2017 by 2017 initiative. The plan, which is aimed at getting 2017 kids in the league by the year 2017, got league leaders to open a Juniors Division for 13- and 14-year olds.
