Capital improvements to athletic facilities are never easy to come by. Almost always, the Washoe County School District deems those as elective changes and not necessities so those is rarely district money kicked down to cover improvements.

The athletic administration at Sparks High faces challenges, many of which stem from working at and promoting a school that's 60-plus years old. Challenges always arise when remodeling or renovation projects come up and those roll around with some frequency given the school's age.
Life Sport Lessons
Mixed child and adult golf lessons are a big hit locally. They are offered each spring and summer by the Sparks Parks Recreation Department. The second session is currently underway and being held at WildCreek golf course in Sparks.
Summer league keeps girls prep hoop teams competing
Opportunities for high school girls basketball teams to compete in the summer are shrinking. Long gone are summer tournaments at Reno, North Valleys and Carson. Multiple summer jamborees formerly hosted at Spanish Springs are no longer available either.
Carson City drubs Sparks Centennial Hooligans
After downing South Tahoe, 7-2, Monday in the opener of the District 1 Hooligans Tournament, Sparks Centennial was looking to stay undefeated in round robin action Tuesday night at South Valleys Regional Sports Complex.
MRANN ends spring season at Honey Lake
The desert racers that compete in MRANN ended their spring season with the 4th annual "Go Big or Go Home, Corey Herring Memorial European Scrambles." It's becoming a Father's Day weekend tradition and once again the venue was the Honey Lake Motocross Park.
