McQueen overtakes Sp. Springs at regional girls golf
The Spanish Springs Cougars took an 11-stroke lead into the second day of the Northern Division 1 girls golf championships, hosted at Reno's Sierra Sage Golf Course. That may have sounded like a nice cushion after Monday's first round but in the end it wasn't enough.
RMA rocks Honey Lake MX Park
The Honey Lake Motocross Park was the site for round 3 of the Reno Motocross Association's initial fall series. Although the rider count was a bit on the light side, all the racers gave a good account of themselves.
Nevada squeaks by Wyoming in OT
After losing its starting quarterback to injury in the second quarter, the Nevada football team looked demoralized despite holding a 21-7 lead over visiting Wyoming. Slowly the Cowboys erased the two-touchdown deficit en route to grabbing a 28-21 edge at the start of the fourth quarter. Fortunately for the crowd of 24,025 at Mackay Stadium, the Wolf Pack and backup quarterback Devin Combs had some Homecoming magic up their sleeves.
Spanish Springs boys, girls soccer downs Galena
The Spanish Springs Cougars continue to show they belong in northern Nevada's elite class of boys soccer programs this fall. The Cougars handed traditionally tough Galena a 2-0 loss in a crossover league contest Saturday at SSHS.
Reed football overpowers Hug
With current students and alumni of Reed High School in the stands, king and queen candidates dressed in tuxedos and gowns, the Raider Nation was looking for a reason to cheer at the end of Homecoming Week on Friday night, and the Raiders football team gave those in attendance plenty to celebrate. Unfortunately for Hug, it came at the visitors’ expense.

There was plenty of Homecoming hysteria at the three Sparks high schools Friday night. Unfortunately for the Maroon and Gold faithful, it had to watch Lowry come to town and put a spanking on the home team, 53-6.
