Reed girls shine at Rotary meet
The Reed girls track & field team looks like it may be among the northern Nevada's elite. Reed finished third in the girls team standings at the Reed Rotary Invitational, one of the top early season meets in the region.
Elko uses sixth inning rally to top Railroaders
Hosting a trio of crossover games against Division I-A North foes from the Ruby Mountain League, the Sparks High baseball team faced off against Elko Friday afternoon. Through five innings of play Sparks and the Indians were deadlocked at 3-3 before Elko broke the tie in the sixth inning. Unfortunately for the Maroon and Gold, it was unable to rally.
Elko softball too much for Sparks
The Elko Indians used an eight-run third inning to blow open its prep softball game at Sparks Friday afternoon. The rally helped propel Elko to a 10-0 triumph in a mercy-rule shortened five-inning affair.
Cougars outlast Wooster for sweep
Coming off a tough loss at Manogue that snapped its four game winning streak, the Spanish Springs baseball team got back in the win column as it outlasted Wooster for a Division I North sweep.
Manogue uses 11-run sixth to rout Cougars 14-4
Entering its contest at Bishop Manogue, the Spanish Springs baseball team was riding a four-game winning streak in which it had outscored its opponents 26-2 with three shutouts. The Miners broke the rest of the Division I North’s slump against the Cougars Wednesday.
Reed’s Hargrove signs with Dakota State
Marty Hargrove is a two-sport star at Reed High. At a National Letter of Intent signing ceremony Wednesday afternoon, the Reed senior made it official that he will try to achieve the same recognition as a collegiate athlete.
Reed names new cheer coach
For the past 13 years, Paula Edmonds has guided the cheerleading program at Reed High School. Now there will be a new face leading the way for the Blue and Gold cheer squad after Edmonds recently stepped down. In her place will step Jessica Bradshaw.
SSHS softball dispatches Carson
The Spanish Springs softball team continued its hot start to the young season, ripping off its seventh straight victory and improving to 10-1 on the spring campaign. Spanish Springs saddled Carson with a 7-3 defeat in a Division I North crossover league contest Tuesday afternoon.
Cougars struggle, Raiders improve at WildCreek
As the wind gusts increased Tuesday afternoon at Sparks' WildCreek Golf Course, so did the scores. The breezy conditions wreaked havoc on many local prep golfers at this week's High Desert League Tournament, especially those from Spanish Springs.

Coming off a program-first sweep of Reno, the Spanish Springs baseball team was riding high but wanted to make sure to avoid a letdown the next time it took the diamond. Unfortunately for the Wooster Colts, they happened to be next on the schedule for the Cougars.

Youth soccer registration nears
The local American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is having its annual registration for the fall season on select days from April 20 – June 1, 2013 at Mendive Middle School.
