Timeline hazy for return of Reed baseball coach
It’s unclear how long the Reed High baseball team will be without its head coach. If Wednesday’s 10-0 five-inning mercy-rule home loss to Reno was any indication, the return of second-year coach Ray Charles can’t come fast enough.
McQueen dismantles Spanish Springs
Some cold weather on Thursday afternoon was not the only thing that Spanish Springs’ baseball supporters had to endure. A multitude of errors, along with a lackluster offensive performance, made for a dismal showing for the Cougars and McQueen took a 10-0 victory at its MHS campus.
Cougars slip by Lancers; Raiders down Grizz
The McQueen Lancers and Spanish Springs Cougars got locked up in an old fashioned pitchers' duel Wednesday afternoon at SSHS. In the end, it was Spanish Springs that got just enough offense to pull out a 1-0 home win in Northern 4A League prep softball action.
Cougars second at Washoe, Reed fourth
The Spanish Springs Cougars are the second best golf team in the High Desert League. The SSHS squad would have a hard time saying it’s any better than that and the three teams below the Cougars would have a tough sell to make anyone believe they are better than the Cougars.
Reno trips up Reed
The Reed baseball team went to Reno High in the final week of the season a year ago and stunned the Northern 4A regular season champs in extra innings.
Cougars cut down Colts
The Spanish Springs baseball team needs to win four games in four days during this final week of the Northern 4A League season. After picking up a 7-3 road win at Wooster Tuesday, it’s got one down and three to go.
Sparks softball swept by Truckee
The Sparks softball team wrapped up its season with a Mount Rose League doubleheader against Truckee on Tuesday afternoon, but unfortunately for the Maroon and Gold faithful, the Railroaders lost twice, 6-0 and 26-11.
Spanish Springs, Reed softball snare league wins
In the final week of the regular season, prep softball teams are trying to find and gain momentum just in time for the playoffs. A recent span in which the Spanish Springs softball team lost four of five games might have worried Cougar fans, but the SSHS nine may be hitting their stride as they enter the home stretch. Spanish Springs visited Reno on Tuesday afternoon and dominated the Huskies 15-1 for its third consecutive victory.
Aces sweep Bees
SALT LAKE CITY — Ryan Wheeler’s first-inning grand slam sparked a 5-run frame and the Aces never trailed Sunday night, finishing-off the series sweep with a 9-5 victory over the Salt Lake Bees at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Janice Bria: Bleeding Maroon and Gold
No matter the Sparks High School sporting event a person attends, he or she is almost guaranteed to see Janice Bria. Whether it is on the football field, the basketball court or the baseball diamond, Bria will be there.
SSHS softball takes two at Douglas
The Spanish Springs softball used the long ball to snap a three-game losing skid. The Cougars crushed three home runs in the opener of a doubleheader at Douglas and cruised to a sweep of the twin bill, rolling to wins of 9-1 and 10-5.
Cougars steal victory from Raiders
It’s hard to get 14 hits, out-hit your opponent by eight and only score four runs. In fact, it’s probably harder to get held to four runs when you collect 14 hits, than it would be to score more off that same hit total.
