Railroaders count 2013 season as a success
When the 2012 season wrapped up for the Sparks High baseball team, head coach Greg Vasko knew there were going to be a lot of holes to fill once the 2013 spring came around. After replacing nine seniors from a year ago and still reaching the postseason, Vasko said he can look back at the Railroaders’ 2013 campaign as an accomplishment for the Maroon and Gold.
Reed softball sees season end
An offensive drought brought the Reed High softball team's season to an untimely end in the D-1 State Softball Tournament at UNLV Friday night. Reed managed just six hits against Palo Verde's No. 3 pitcher and the result was a 4-1 loss in a losers' bracket battle against the Sunset Region's No. 2 seed.
Defense lets Raiders down in state tournament loss
The Reed High softball team learned the hard way that postseason mistakes don't often go unpunished. The Raiders dropped a 5-4 decision to defending state champion Centennial in a first-round state tournament tilt Thursday night and it can lay the blame squarely on its defense.
Manogue makes history to win boys golf state championship
Entering the second and final day of the Division I State Boys Golf Tournament at Sierra Sage Golf Course, the hopes of a northern team grabbing a state championship looked slim. Bishop Manogue sat in fourth place, 19 shots behind first place Foothill, while Reno was in sixth in a 35-shot hole. Then the Miners etched their names in the record books.
Raiders believe in power of group over individual
When the Reed softball team dropped its opening-round contest of the Division I Northern Region Tournament to Galena 7-0, no one outside of the Blue and Gold dugout thought the Raiders could fight their way back. Rather than letting the loss send them into a downward spiral and end their season, the Raiders used the defeat to come closer together as a team.

Last winter, Austin Corbett didn’t even think he’d be on the Reed track team let alone earn a regional championship. And yet, when the dust had settled and the all the athletes and fans had left Damonte Ranch High School last Saturday, signaling the end of the Division I North Track and Field Championships, there was Corbett headed home a regional champ in the shot put with a throw of 54-feet 10 and a quarter inches.
Reed, Centennial prep for state softball clash
The softball teams from Centennial and Reed high schools are becoming familiar postseason foes despite being 430-plus miles apart. Centennial and Reed met three times in the 2009 state tournament and twice in last year's state tournament.
