Errors plague Cougars in loss to Damonte
Before its meeting with Spanish Springs Wednesday, the Damonte Ranch softball team was dancing down the third-base line. Seven innings later, the Mustangs had plenty of reason to keep on dancing.

Reed softball humbled in playoff loss
The Reed High softball team picked a bad time to turn in one of its worst performances in recent history. The Raiders were far from stellar at the plate, on the mound or in the field. The end result was High Desert League champion and No. 1 seed Reed was saddled with a 7-0 home loss to No. 4 seeded Galena in a Division I North Regional Softball Tournament first-round contest Tuesday.

Wood, Perera qualify for state boys golf
Bishop Manogue made the Resort at RedHawk its home away from home for two days and blitzed the boys golf field en route to a regional championship. Protecting a five-stroke lead after Day 1, the Miners left the competition in their dust by totaling a 370 in the second round, helped by individual medalist Harrison Holetz‘s 70.

Talk about a wide open D-I Northern Region baseball tournament. The second through fifth seeds all had an equal 16-6 record, while the seventh seed was still only three games behind them. Only one team, No. 8 Carson, had a league mark under .500 this spring.

Coming into its regular season series finale against cross-town rival Reed, the Spanish Springs baseball team was on a tear through Division I North competition. The Cougars came into the two-game set with an eight-game winning streak, having swept their previous four Div. I series. However, Spanish Springs’ run did little to intimidate the Raiders.

Sparks baseball bounced in opener of playoff series
The Sparks High baseball team put itself in a tough spot after dropping Thursday's opener at Lowry in the opener of a best-of-three playoff series. Sparks committed three errors on the road in Winnemucca and the host Buckaroos took advantage, posting a 9-5 playoff triumph.

Cohen shines in Arkansas
When Chelsea Cohen graduated from Reed High School in 2009 and chose the University of Arkansas as her new home, she knew there would some things she would have to adjust to on the softball field. There were also some things off of the field that took a little adjusting to as well.
