Hinton scores third Unlimited Gold as Air Races take off
After last year's tragedy at the Reno Air Races, it appeared there might never be another air race but after a year of very hard work, not to mention a lot of support, the event took off this week. And great weather set the stage for a week of color, power and speed.
Aces win PCL title
PAPILLION, Neb.—After a club-record 81-wins, a flurry of individual accolades and a deep postseason run, the Reno Aces Baseball Club put an exclamation point on the 2012 season Saturday night, defeating the Omaha Storm Chasers 8-2 at Werner Park to win the first Pacific Coast League Championship in franchise history.
Nevada avoids Northwestern State upset bid
The Nevada Wolf Pack football team went into its game against the University of Northwestern State looking to redeem itself coming off a heartbreaking 32-31 loss to South Florida the previous week. Expecting an easier game than most on its schedule, the Wolf Pack was in for a surprise fight but was able to escape from a shootout at Mackay Stadium with a 45-34 victory Saturday.
Reed scores early and often, dumps Manogue
RENO -- Early in its game against Bishop Manogue, the Reed football team put its foot on the gas pedal and never let up. Led by the strong arm of quarterback Mark Nowaczewski, the outcome of the game was never in doubt as the Raiders’ aerial attack took off. Nowaczewski threw for 335 yards en route to a 42-21 Reed victory.
Aces win in Omaha, move within a win of PCL crown
PAPILLION, Neb.—Seven shutout frames for Joe Martinez and back-to-back home runs in the third inning Friday night lifted the Reno Aces to a 3-0 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers in Game 3 of the Pacific Coast League Championship Series at Werner Park.
Cougars stay perfect in HDL, down Reno; Reed sweeps Hug
After a victory on Tuesday, Spanish Springs volleyball coach Frank Sandomenico said he wanted to see the quality of play his team would bring to its next match against perennial league power Reno. Fortunately for Sandomenico, the Cougars rose to the occasion on Thursday evening, grabbing a 3-1 victory at Reno, 23-25, 25-11, 25-15 and 25-23.
Reed girls soccer settles for tie
The Reed girls soccer team had to fight from behind twice in the second half to avoid a loss. The Raiders did manage to stave off defeat but they could do no better than a draw as the east Sparks school tied Reno 3-3 Thursday night.

In Week 4 of the prep football season, one local squad will look to keep the momentum going after coming off its first win of the season. One team will be looking to get back on track after suffering its first loss. And the third Rail City squad is in search of its first victory.
Northern Nevada football officials help the game go
Since the final whistle blew last season, coaches and players alike have been preparing for the return of the Friday night lights to prep gridirons. Now with the season in full swing, the boys of fall are lacing up their cleats and strapping on their helmets, putting all their hard work to the test on the gridiron each week. However, players won’t be the only ones on the field doing so.

RENO — An early lead and a five-run fifth inning Wednesday lifted the Omaha Storm Chasers to a 9-6 victory over the Reno Aces at Aces Ballpark, evening the Pacific Coast League Championship Series at a game apiece.
Reno sweeps Reed volleyball
The last time Reed and Reno met on the volleyball court, the Raiders stunned a top-seeded Huskies squad in the semifinals of last year’s regional tournament. It was a far different outcome Tuesday night.
