Prep football season winds down
The annual Nevada Day weekend is nearly here and that means the state’s high school football season is winding down. Northern 3A schools like Sparks play their regular season finale tonight. Northern 4A members, like Rail City schools Reed and Spanish Springs, have just two contests left on their regular season slates.
Raiders, Cougars finish off league schedules with wins
Heading into the Northern 4A playoffs next week, the Reed volleyball team looked to send its seniors out on a high note with a win. The Raiders did just that, closing out its regular season with a sweep of North Valleys Wednesday evening 25-15, 25-14, 26-24.

Coming into the first place showdown on the gridiron between the Reed and Reno football teams, one could have expected a close, tough game. That was the case for about a quarter and a half Friday night before the Raiders exploded on their way to an easy 42-7 victory.

The last time the Reed volleyball team faced off against McQueen, it needed a comeback, from down two games, to come away with the victory. No such effort was needed this time around. The Raiders swept the second go-round against the Lancers, 25-14, 25-20, 25-20 Thursday evening.

At McQueen, a late goal by the hosts scuttled Reed's chances of stealing a road win. McQueen scored in the 78th minute to pull into a 2-2 tie and earn a draw Wednesday afternoon in boys prep soccer action.

There is looking to be fewer and fewer speed bumps on the Sparks High boys soccer team’s road to a perfect season. The Railroaders record is still unblemished after a 4-0 romp over incline at home Tuesday afternoon.
