Judging from the reaction of the national media and from all the liberal columnists here in the Tribune, John McCain truly blew it when he picked Sarah Palin for his vice presidential running mate.

Presidential politics, part deux
Two weeks ago I stated in this space that I avoid writing about political mumbo jumbo because I don’t know much about them, and then I proceeded to ramble on for a thousand or so words about Sen. Barack Obama.
It is often said that failure to learn from history dooms us to repeat it, and from the look of things we are getting set for a remake of the so-called “Cuban Missile Crisis,” starring Bush the lesser as Richard Nixon and Barack Obama as the hapless Jack Kennedy, trapped in a crisis he never made.
Political ads or political lies?
In this day and age I don’t think any of us really expect to hear the absolute truth in a political ad, but some of what is being aired by McCain are outright lies and deceptions.
