RENO — On April 14, Mymains Stewart Gilligan was awarded the Guinness World Record for the World’s Longest Tail on a Domestic Cat. This follows his Aug. 28, 2010, Longest Cat Record, both of which appear in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records. Mymains Stewart Gilligan, or “Stewie,” is a 6-year-old Maine Coon show cat owned by Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsness. Stewie’s tail was measured at the Nevada Humane Society on Feb. 13. His tail measured in at 16.34 inches. This makes Stewie the only cat in the world with a multiple World Record distinction.

“I am just amazed how well he does with all of this,” Hendrickson said. “We get recognized when we go places. I am very happy for him, he is truly one of a kind!”

Stewie also does good things with his new found recognition. In July, he received his official Therapy Cat Certification. Stewie loves to visit with the residents at Regent Care in Reno.

“The dream is to take him to visit the children at Saint Jude’s,” said Hendrickson, “Maybe be welcomed into the local hospitals here.”

Stewie will be in attendance at the annual Silver Cats Cat Show, the Frightening Five-Star Feline Face-Off. The show will be held Oct. 29-30 in the Nevada Room at the Grand Sierra Resort. About The Silver Cats Club: The Silver Cats Club has been active since 1984. We are a not for pro t organization (501 c3) whose main function is to raise monies to benefit animal welfare agencies and individuals. The Nevada Humane Society has been one of our main recipients along with Palomino Valley Pet Rescue, Feline Rescue of Northern Nevada, Community Cats, Animal Ark, Ria Katz as well as a small scholarship at the University of Nevada, Reno for a veterinary student.

To that end, our group produces yearly International Cat Shows as well as Household Pet Cat Shows to raise our funds. As community outreach, the club also participates in school programs, visits to the elderly and disabled care centers, and working with Sierra County, California in their program against violence.

The Silver Cats Club meets the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. Meetings are held in the multi-purpose classrooms at the Washoe County Animal Services Building in Reno. Membership dues are $25.00 yearly for an individual or $30 for the family. If you are interested in joining our group, making a donation or would just like information, please email us at Robin@SilverCatsReno.org.
