At about 9 p.m. Saturday, Reno police and medical personnel responded to an injury accident at the intersection of Fourth and Sutro streets. Prior to their arrival, officers learned that one of the vehicles involved was trying to flee the scene, continuing eastbound on Fourth Street. Once on scene, officers learned that the victim vehicle, a mid-sized passenger car, had been stopped, facing west at a stop light at Fourth and Sutro. The suspect vehicle had been traveling east on Fourth Street and crossed over the lane line, striking the victim’s vehicle. The driver and passenger in the car that was waiting for the red light both received injuries, including a broken arm bone to the driver.
The suspect vehicle, an SUV, was found east of the accident scene, at Fourth and Toano, missing the front driver’s side wheel. Witnesses said the driver of that car, 29-year-old Sparks resident Nicole Dewald, had attempted to leave the scene but her vehicle broke down. Several Reno officers responded to assist with the accident and arrest of the suspect.
Dewald was charged with DUI causing substantial bodily harm, hit and run with injury and careless driving.
