RENO — A disgruntled Walmart employee accused of shooting three supervisors at a store in Reno and holing up for several hours in a standoff with police has pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempted murder.

John Gillane, 45, also pleaded not guilty to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial harm. Washoe District Judge Patrick Flanagan ordered the Reno man to stand trial Aug. 15.

The three managers were wounded but survived the Oct. 29 attack. Gillane eventually surrendered peacefully to police following negotiations with a Reno police officer, who weeks earlier had responded to Gillane's motel room because he was armed and suicidal.
