RENO — The biggest food fight in the nation is back. For the third year in a row, La Tomatina en Reno will take over downtown Reno in what is expected to be its biggest crowd ever.

The tomato fight will take place at 5 p.m. on Aug. 27 at 10 N. Virginia St. (City Plaza).

This year, La Tomatina en Reno, LLC, has taken over the event and is teaming with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Northern Nevada (JDRF). Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased at the City Plaza on the day of the event or may be purchased online at www.clubcalneva.com/latomatinareno. A portion of the profit from the event will benefit the JDRF.

Due to an expected crowd of about 5,000 participants this year, La Tomatina is urging attendees to not wait until the last minute to sign up as they may not get in to participate or get caught standing in extremely long lines.

The Knitting Factory in downtown Reno will also host the La Tomatina pre-party featuring the band Jahzilla. Tickets for the pre-party are $6 and can be purchased through the Knitting Factory’s website or at the Club Cal Neva. All proceeds from the show will go to benefit JDRF.
