RENO — The Reno Underground will feature a variety of shows this weekend.

The Strange, voted New Mexico’s best band, will play with special guests Merkin and The Kanes Thursday at 8 p.m. For music lovers 21 and older.

Bringing their diverse influences and unified love of classic rock together The Strange have become one of Santa Fe, New Mexico’s most beloved new rock bands, recently named Santa Fe Reporters Best New Band for 2010. Their musical creations are a fusion of sixties/seventies style classic rock akin to The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Band and Neil Young, with more progressive styles including funk, reggae, folk, and rock-a-billy. Since their inception, The Strange has captivated a local following as well as audiences across the Southwest.

Saving Alleya will headline at 6:30 p.m. Friday with The Jet Stole Home, Come Home Geoffrey and The Reagan Years. This show is for all ages. Tickets cost $5 in advance or $8 at the door.

Progressive reggae rockers Fortunate Youth will play at The Underground at 8 p.m. Saturday with Tatanka and Trench War Audio. Tickets cost $8 in advance or $10 at the door. This show is for music lovers 21 and older.

Fortunate Youth is a collaboration of South Bay reggae stand-outs. Rising from various bands, they’ve created a phenomenal 7-piece masterpiece bringing more fire to the stage than ever before. Combining rootsy vibes and unique bass lines united with multiple harmonies, boisterous guitar solos, and heavy keys separates Fortunate Youth from every other mainstream reggae band. With their high energy approach and positive stage presence they provide an unforgettable show to every music fan.
