INCLINE VILLAGE — The Tahoe Rim Trail Association, the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science, and the American Red Cross (ARC) are partnering for their sixth annual Youth Backcountry Camp (YBCC) summer program. Teens ages 12 to 17 are invited to attend one of the three, five or six day programs and partake in an inspiring wilderness experience.

Year after year, these programs prove to be a great opportunity for local teens to make new friends while learning about: wilderness first aid, navigation (map/compass and GPS), Leave No Trace wilderness ethics, local ecology, geology, backcountry cooking and nutrition. Participants will backpack between two and nine miles per day and participate in a service learning project improving part of the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Gear, food and transportation will be provided for all participants. All programs are instructed by experienced and well-trained staff from the TRTA, TINS and ARC. Scholarships are available. To determine your eligibility, contact Hayley by phone at 298-0238 or email

To see a complete list of July camp dates and locations or to register online, visit the TRTA website at For more information, call 298-0238 or email Hayley at

For younger adventurers, there are the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) summer camps. TINS, with support from the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, is offering summer day camps for children ages 6 to 12. While your older teens are out enjoying a YBCC adventure, send your younger ones to investigate bugs, forests and mud through these hands on TINS summer camps.

All day camps are instructed by experienced and well trained TINS staff. Member rates and scholarships are available. For more information about TINS Summer Camps, including all the dates and locations, visit or contact Ben at
