SPARKS — The Sparks Police Department currently has extra patrol officers working to enforce speed laws within the city. The campaign is part of Joining Forces and SPD is partnered with the Reno Police Department, Nevada Highway Patrol and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in the effort to slow drivers down throughout the valley.

Speed, along with alcohol, has been a major contributor in the last two fatal vehicle crashes in Sparks, and continues to be the topic of most complaints to the police department.

The Sparks Police Department encourages drivers in all areas of town to drive at the posted speed limits. Most residential areas are a posted 25 mph speed limit.  Higher traffic areas such as McCarran Boulevard, Sparks and Vista boulevards are 40 to 45 mph.

The fine in Sparks for 1 to 15 miles over the speed limit is $150 and will result in one demerit on your driving record. Violations 16 to 20 mph over the limit will result in a $180 fine and two demerits on your record.

This speed enforcement campaign will run through the Hot August Nights event.

Sparks Police Department reminds drivers to drive the posted speed limit, wear their seat belts and never drink and drive.

somebody needs to start putting a radar gun to the police officers that speed all the time and think they are above the law. they are just as unsafe as the average joe.
