On Oct. 10, Sparks police officers met with residents in the 500 block of 6th Street, who reported a residential burglary earlier that evening. The suspects ransacked the home and took firearms and a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.

An officer located the vehicle driving south on El Rancho Drive a short time later. The vehicle, a 2000 Gray GMC step side pickup with Nevada plates 728 VEE was driven by a Hispanic male adult. The driver made eye contact with the officer as he passed him on the roadway and immediately fled at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the stolen vehicle through Sparks for a short distance and into Reno before quickly returning to Sparks once again. The suspect entered I-80 eastbound with officers in pursuit. The Nevada Highway Patrol, the Storey County Sheriff’s Office and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office assisted in attempting to apprehend the suspect. Officers terminated their pursuit of the suspect as he drove into the City of Fernley.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic adult male with dark short hair, who appeared to be in his late 20s to early 30s. Officers believe the suspect is armed with the stolen firearms and may be a threat if approached. If anyone has information as to the identity of the suspect or the location of any of the stolen items, they are encouraged to call the Sparks Police Department at 353-2231 or Secret Witness if they want to be anonymous.
