SPARKS — Sparks Police Department will hold a “Take 25” event today at the Outlets at Legends at Sparks Marina between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in observance of May 25th’s National Missing Children’s Day, proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1983.
The event, held at the outdoor shopping center off Sparks Boulevard and Interstate 80, is a program of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The purpose is to heighten the public’s awareness of children’s personal safety issues, with a focus on prevention. The campaign encourages parents, guardians and other role models to spend time talking to children and teaching them ways to be safe, according to the Sparks Police.
The Sparks Police Department will be running their Child ID program during the event, where parents can have their children fingerprinted and photographed for their records. Parents must accompany children to participate in the Child ID event.
The Sparks Police will also have its Mounted Unit on hand, and a SWAT display. For more information, call Officer Alex Mendoza at 353-2299.
